I am originally from India and have been living in Columbus for last 3 years with my husband and 2 kids! Although I have lived in other states and cities in US, I love Columbus as it is a small place with lots of opportunities and places to explore! I re- explored the city when I found out that Columbus is the 6th best architectural city in the nation, pretty incredible for a small town, isn’t it? Columbus is a town with close community and people from diverse backgrounds. The schools are amazing and strive hard to provide all the necessary support for their students. I like to work with the ELL department and be a part of such program which focuses on helping students to gain the necessary English Language skills for their smooth journey in the school systems. ELL program initiates and work to provide opportunities to develop English language skills, that helps students strengthen not only their linguistic ability, but also their moral and confidence. I understand the importance of the ELL program, as I am myself from a non-native background. Along with working, my future plan is to complete my certification program of HR Management, which I am currently pursuing from IVY Tech community college. In my leisure time, I like to watch movies, hang out with my friends or read books.

Malorie Farrington

Malorie Farrington
EL Transition Specialist

My name is Malorie Farrington and I am the Transition Specialist for the BCSC EL Program. When a new student enters our school district, and there is a language other than English present on their home language survey, a student is assessed to see if they qualify for English Language services. I make sure all of the student information is entered into our system so that teachers and administrators can be sure to provide the best services. I often administer the high school tests at Columbus North High School and for the incoming Kindergarteners around the district. Every Spring, I help to make sure the annual WIDA ACCESS testing for our 1,200 EL students can run smoothly. In addition to English proficiency testing, I am hoping to further nurture the transition process, specifically at the high school level, so that students in the EL program can thrive. Working together with teachers, counselors, and administrators, newcomers will be able to have success in school despite the challenges that come with learning English. In addition to being passionate about English language learning, I am passionate about learning languages myself. I studied and majored in French at Kansas State University and I am currently studying Spanish at Ivy Tech Columbus. I enjoy cooking, baking (and eating!) different cuisines from around the world. My favorite place to be? Eating and laughing around a dinner table with my husband, my two little boys, my family, and friends.
