I am originally from San Luis Potosi, Mexico, and I have lived in the Unites States for 18 years now. We stayed in a small town in Iowa then moved to Columbus when I was in 4th grade. I graduated from St. Bartholomew, then from CNHS in 2012, and finally from IUPUC with a degree in Marketing and Management. I am a people person and a passionate musician and DJ. I have a 40 lb Siberian husky and a 6 lb Maltese. I like working with Hispanic families because when I first came to Columbus we did not have anyone to navigate us through the school system. I see it as a way to give back to my community and it is rewarding, especially when you make meaningful positive change in the lives of others.

Hello, my name is Brissa, I am from Mexico, I have been living in the United States for many years, i lived 12 years in NYC, 1 year in Hawaii, and almost 12 years here in Columbus, I love spending time with my kids i have 4, Iracema, Ryan, Owen and Andrea they are all my Reason to be. I been interpreter for many people for more than 10 years voluntarily without waiting for a payment from the person, many times they give me cash for my time even if I tell them they don’t have to do that, some people they take me to lunch or cook for me mole, tamales, cake, people treat you as you treat them. But I’m not only translated also I like to help them if I can, with food, clothes, ect. in fact the money that some people give me I save it and buy clothes, shoes, toys ect. to send to Mexico to the people in need, this is something I learned from my maternal grandmother, I remember going with her to the market and she buying food for the homeless, or she sitting in a hammock outside the house and any poor people who pass, she went inside the house and prepared something for them to eat and made them a lunch for later. I think i boring you guys, but when I talk about why I like to help people, it’s impossible not remember her. She teach me if I can help why not and I teach the same way to my kids, of course all at discretion and without putting aside our Family & work. We have our priorities and Family is always # 1 . Hobbies: spending time with my kids, cook, crafts, and if i have time sleep.

I was born in a beautiful colonial city in México named San Luis Potosí. I have a Bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering and I was trained by the University of San Luis to teach English as Second Language. I am a certified Medical and Legal Interpreter and a lifelong learner. I have been married to Jose Contreras for 31 years and thanks to his job, we came to Columbus in July 2006 with our two kids Arturo (Graphic Designer) and Lety Jr. (Early Childhood Educator). Since we moved to Columbus, I have been volunteering and working with organizations dedicated to either education or well-being. I taught Spanish, mentored Spanish teachers at Ivy Tech for 9 years, and participate as a Healthy Communities Promotora for CRH. I have volunteered for Family School Partners, Plaza Comunitaria, Volunteers in Medicine Clinic, DSI, and I participated as Member of the Board of Columbus Park Foundation; actually I am engaged with ASAP, CYD, Latino Education Group and the PFAC at CRH. I have attended several trainings and workshops always looking to improve my skills and knowledge to be able to help the people I serve. My hobbies include learning, reading, spending time with family and friends, and visiting my family in México. I love having the chance to facilitate the communication between school and parents, helping both sides to get a better understanding of the other’s culture, and encouraging kids to be successful.

My name is Yamileth Martinez. I am currently an interpreter at Richards, Rockcreek, Smith, and Columbus East High School. Many people also know me as Yami, and I have been an interpreter in BCSC since last fall of 2017. I am originally from Xalapa, Veracruz Mexico and arrived to the United States at the age of eight. When I arrived, I began school at an elementary in Illinois before we moved to Columbus, IN. I have been living in Columbus for approximately eleven years. I attended Taylorsville, Clifty Creek, Northside, Central, and finally graduated from Columbus North High School with Academic Honors and Technical Honors. I was previously studying towards a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering Technology at Purdue Polytechnic. I also had the privilege to work for a reputable company like Cummins for two years in the Mechanical Drafting Team. During my time at Cummins, I had the opportunity to reflect and realized my passion was somewhere else. I am currently in my third year in college at IUPUC, studying towards a Bachelor in Education. I have always had a passion in what I do now, such as helping families and students succeed which begins by helping them break that language barrier between parents and school. I now feel excited to come into work every day, knowing I am making an impact. You can reach me at (812) 314-9001.
